16 Quebec Hot Springs for Ultimate Relaxation this Winter

Do you want to relax in the glorious Quebec hot springs? I’ve got you covered with this list of the best hot springs in Quebec.

I spend a lot of time outdoors in Canada walking with my dog, and after a long hike, my muscles are often sore. I absolutely love visiting the hot springs for some relief. They’re especially amazing in winter when you need to warm up after days of skiing.

I’ve basically explored the whole country in winter solely to find the best hot springs, and these are my favourites in Quebec.

Some of the best natural hot springs in Canada are in Quebec. You’ll find outdoor pools, nordic spas, and geothermal lagoons. These are all perfect places to spend the day and leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

1. Kōena Spa

Kōena means balance in Hawaiian, and these thermal baths in Quebec certainly leave you feeling peace and balance.

Kōena Spa is a Nordic bath near Gatineau Park that uses the thermal cycle to relax and promote mindfulness. The thermal cycle consists of exposing yourself to heat, cold, and relaxation. This technique is used in a number of the hot springs in Quebec.

Hawaii’s landscape inspires Kōena Spa. There are firepits and numerous waterfalls around the property to make you feel like you’re really in a tropical paradise.

Fӧrena uses Iceland, Germany, and Russia for its Nordic bath inspiration. You definitely feel like you’re visiting a European country here!

The hot and cold baths are designed to look like you’re swimming among Icelandic lava rocks. The steam baths and cold waterfalls give you a taste of Russian spas, and you can participate in a traditional German Aufguss session.

Aufguss is a special sauna experience using essential oils, music, and a host performing rhythmic movements with a towel. If you’ve never done this, you won’t regret giving it a try!

After an Augfuss session, enjoy a meal in their onsite restaurant and spend the afternoon lounging in one of the many outdoor pools.

This Quebec hot spring is a child-free zone, requiring you to be at least 18 to enter. They also have a silence policy when using the spa facilities on the property.

FAQs

Do you need to shower after hot springs?

No, you do not need to shower after hot springs. The effects of the minerals from a hot spring last a few hours after you get out. Showering will rinse off the minerals from the water. It is only beneficial to rinse off if you have sensitive skin.

How long should you soak in hot springs?

You should soak in hot springs for about 10 minutes at a time. The water in hot springs is usually 40℃ (104℉), and this intense heat can cause dehydration and even burns. Spas recommend bathing for 10 minutes, then taking a break. You can repeat this three times but do not bathe for more than 30 minutes total.

What are the benefits of hot springs?

The benefits of hot springs are numerous, including naturally detoxing and softening your skin. Bathing in hot springs increases your blood flow and improves your circulation and metabolism. The hot water can also block our pain receptors, relieving joint pain and arthritis. Many people even claim it helps their skin conditions like eczema.

What is the new hot spring in Quebec?

The new hot spring in Quebec is called GeoLagoon Quebec, based on the Icelandic Blue Lagoon. GeoLagoon plans to have four locations in Quebec, each with solar-powered rental units and a large geothermal pool fed by rainwater without discharge into the environment. These villages are set to open in December 2025.

Are there natural hot springs in Quebec?

There are technically no natural hot springs in Quebec. Quebec has natural springs, but the water is actually cold. The Quebec spas heat this natural spring water to create a hot pool.

Wrap Up

Quebec has some of the best hot springs in Canada!

One of my favorites has to be Nordik Spa-Nature Chelsea because of the amazing flotation experience! If you’ve never been to a flotation pool, it’s time you tried it!

Remember to bring your bathing suit and sandals when you spend the day at a Quebec thermal spa. Some spas will provide a bathrobe and towels.

Always check before going if you need to make a reservation, as some hot springs don’t take reservations for the thermal experience.

A lot of the spas have a strict silence policy. You can chat with your friends during your experience at certain times or areas. Check with the spa before you go!

The journey to one of these amazing Quebec hot springs can be a great road trip idea! Grab a couple of friends, plenty of snacks, and you’re on your way to one of the most relaxing experiences you can find!

Canada Travel Planning Guide

🚑 Should I buy Canada travel insurance?

100% YES! — Canada has “free” healthcare but it’s only for citizens! Foreigners visiting need travel insurance in case anything happens on their visit. I recommend World Nomads – starting at just $5 a day!

💧Can you drink the water in Canada?

Yes — In all major cities in Canada, you can drink the tap water. There are very few, rural areas that you can’t. However, you should never drink river or lake water anywhere in the country! I recommend a Brita Water Bottle for long hikes and backcountry camping to stay safe and hydrated.

🚙💨 Is it safe to rent a car in Canada?

Yes Renting a car is a necessity in most of Canada! If you want to go on road trips or adventures outside of the major cities, you’ll need to rent a car. (Read more)

📲 Will my phone work in Canada?

Maybe — Some American companies work in Canada, but many will not. If your phone doesn’t work in Canada, I recommend getting a Canadian SIM card so you can get around and stay in contact with loved ones. We don’t have a lot of free WIFI in Canada, so you’ll need your phone for maps.

🏩 What’s the best way to book my Canada accommodations?

My go-to for Canadian hotels is Booking.com. For hostels, I use Hostel World. If you want a home-y feeling, check out VRBO (which is cheaper and safer than Airbnb).

Or get free accommodations with Trusted Housesitters!

✈️ What’s the best site to buy Canada flights?

For finding cheap Canadian flights, I recommend Skyscanner.

🎫 Do I need a visa for Canada?

Likely Not — US, UK, and EU passport holders don’t need Canadian visas. However, some other countries do (check here!). And if you plan to stay for more than 4 weeks (an average tourist visa length), you will need to look into visas to live in Canada.
