The Manoir Chamberland has all the charm of an old world boutique hotel with the modern amenities of air conditioning, WIFI, and a heated pool.

I had the pleasure of stay at the Manoir Chamberland on a weekend trip in Montebello. And let me tell you, it ruined me for other hotels.

Not only are the owners, Ross and Dominique, the sweetest men on the planet; but the food is TO DIE FOR. Even the old looking beds are extremely comfortable, and the soaker tub with complimentary bath salts is the perfect way to end a day of hiking.

An Honest Hotel Review of the Manoir Chamberland in Montebello

I am obsessed with this hotel.

It’s technically a B&B, but I’ve always assumed that B&Bs are cutesy and offer a basic breakfast. The ones I stayed at on the Cabot Trail were certainly nothing like this!

The Manoir Chamberland was recommended to me by my mom who had stayed there in the summer of 2021. She had raved about the couples’ hospitality, the amazing creme Anglaise at breakfast (from a woman who doesn’t care for sweets), and the fact that they literally built the hotel themselves.

When you arrive, you’ll be immediately struck by how welcoming Ross and Dominique are.

They take you on a tour of the hotel and allow you to pre-pick your breakfast order and time. They’ll even check on you throughout meals or time playing board games in the lounge.

Beyond the owners, the Manoir Chamberland is incredibly welcoming.

It feels a bit like getting a hug from your grandma – warm, comforting, and a bit ornate in its style.

You’ll sleep like a king in the gorgeous beds!

I only stayed one night and was genuinely sad to leave.

Not only did I know every other breakfast I’ll have this year wouldn’t compare to the Manoir Chamberland’s feast, but I would miss the owners who felt like fast friends.

If you choose to stay at the Manoir, you’ll be treated to a familial feel with amenities no large hotel chain could offer.

Honestly, I recommend going to Montebello just to stay at the Manoir. It should be the town’s main attraction, it’s that amazing!

Any Negatives?

There are only a couple minor things that may mean this isn’t the hotel for you:

There is no elevator, and all rooms are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. So you must be able to walk up stairs.

If you’re a light sleeper, you may need ear plugs as it’s an older building so you can hear footsteps in the hall and running water. I had no issues though, and conked out immediately after eating my complimentary turn-down chocolate from the local shop.

This is an adult-only B&B. I prefer this, but people with kids will need to book a babysitter.

About the Manoir Chamberland

The Vision

Ross and Dominique didn’t begin as master hoteliers.

In fact, when the couple met, neither had plans to start a hotel.

Fast forward to a trip the couple took to Montebello. They spotted the house that is now the Manoir Chamberland, and the rest is history (and a LOT of hard work).

The current Manoir is the product of years of love, dedication, and elbow grease from the couple.

They transformed an old house into a luxury boutique hotel that has all the modern amenities you want while maintaining the old-world charm of a bed and breakfast.

And they did it all without compromising on any of the important details – like amazing food, welcoming hospitality, and beautiful design.

Creating History

When you arrive at the Chamberland, it’s easy to assume that the building has always had this historic, regal feeling.

But that’s actually all to do with Ross and Dominque’s hard work.

The house was initially where the priests from the church lived. When it was decommissioned it became a special needs facility.

In those lifetimes, the house was very bland. The walls were white with simple wood trim. The furniture was functional, not stately.

It was through the couples’ vision that it became the masterpiece it is now.

Seriously, they built a full backyard pavilion around stained glass windows they found from an old church in Montreal! Meanwhile, I had to let my movers decide where my couch should go because I had zero idea.

The Manoir Chamberland isn’t just beautiful to look at, it’s also luxurious to stay in.

The couple have thought of everything, making it so easy to stay with them.

The Location: Montebello, Quebec

The Manoir Chamberland is located in the heart of Montebello.

This small town is situated in the stunning Laurentian Mountains and is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature-lovers.

In the winter, you can hit the slopes at nearby Ski Morin Heights or Ski Montcalm. And in the summer, you can hike, bike, and kayak to your heart’s content.

But even if you’re not the outdoorsy type, Montebello is worth a visit for its charming cafes, shops, and restaurants.

The Chamberland is located right on main street, just steps from popular restaurants.

You can easily do the local Montebello hikes or walk to the marina throughout the day.

The Grounds

The Chamberland is located on a perfect patch of greenery beside the church, with beautiful gardens and a pavilion for events.

In the spring, the grounds are blooming with tulips, daffodils, and other flowers. It’s truly a sight to see.

And in the summer, you can relax by the salt water pool or warm up from a chilly evening in the hot tub.

You’ll even find a newly built croquet area with covered places so you don’t roast in the Canadian summer sun.

The grounds are easily walkable, and are gated off so you won’t have to worry about wandering away or getting lost.

The Rooms at the Manoir Chamberland

Ross and Dominique designed every room to have a unique character. So staying in each room is a completely different experience.

From the Rococo room on the top floor to the more Victorian feeling room I stayed in, you’ll get to travel through time when you stay at the Chamberland.

The rooms are either queen or king beds, with one room on the upper floor having a gorgeous jacuzzi tub overlooking the gardens.

Every room comes with Italian linens that are so soft and silky. Women like my who love a bold lipstick will adore that the men thought to include black makeup face cloths!

Their shampoo, conditioner, lotions, and bath salts are incredibly well made products. I have very sensitive skin and hate most synthetic smells, but these were utterly delicious! And didn’t cause any problems for me.

Every room has a shower, massive sink, and mirror. Some also have soaker tubs.

Prices

Prices vary by room and by season.

The starting price is $380 per room, which honestly is a STEAL for how amazing this B&B is.

When I went to Tobermory, a shack was $500 a night without breakfast. Whereas, here you can live in the height of luxury AND get the best breakfast of your life.

Breakfast at the Chamberland

Ok we’re finally on to my favourite part of this amazing hotel.

Dominique is an INCREDIBLE chef.

He makes the breakfast for all of the guests every day, while Ross helps serve it and keep everyone entertained.

They’re old pros at it, with the smoothest service I’ve seen in a long time.

Breakfast isn’t just eggs and bacon here.

No, it’s a 3 course masterpiece.

You’ll begin with fresh fruit and homemade creme anglaise. I was worried this would be very heavy, but the cream is so perfectly light that you’ll happily drink the last bits! (…I maybe did that like the heathen I am.)

Next, you’ll get a homemade pastry. Every day, Dominique changes up his recipes.

The morning I was there, he made peach melba scones that were so full of cream it was like they had been pre-buttered for me!

I didn’t warn them ahead of time that I’m celiac, and I couldn’t resist the scones, so I happily bore the consequences of a few tummy cramps on my drive home.

Honestly, they were sooo delicious – and that was one of his experiments and not a tried and true recipe!

Also, HE MAKES HIS OWN JAM.

Who does that nowadays??

I need to find myself a Dominique cause I don’t even like jam, yet I was eating it with a spoon!

Finally, you’ll get your main, which you pick out the night before.

There are a variety of options, like classic bacon and eggs, pancakes, a crepe, or an omelet.

The daily special of vegetables and local cheese that go into the omelet and the crepe should always be your choice.

It was MASSIVE, but so light and airy at the same time.

Even the side roast potatoes were outstanding.

What kitchen magic does Dominique possess and how can I harness it when I have to cook at home??

You can only get this breakfast if you stay at the Chamberland – so don’t miss out!

Reviews

Basically, every review I could find for the Manoir Chamberland is positive.

The lowest score on Booking.com is a 7/10 – and there are only 3 of them!

I’ve never seen an accommodation score so high before!

Some common highlights include:

Perfect location that’s so close to fun things to do and great restaurants
Eating on the terrace in the summer
Enjoying the hot tub on cool evenings

The negatives or room for improvement are:

People adore the breakfast so much that they desperately want a dinner option – or maybe just to hire Dominique as their private chef
Books up quickly in the hot summer months
The Chamberland closes in the winter months to allow the owners time off. We’re all for self care, but we selfishly want to spend all year being pampered.
Weather – but no one can control that. If it rains, it rains.
Having to leave 🙁

Why Not the Fairmont Chateau Montebello?

The Fairmont’s Chateau Montebello is one of their best resorts. And it’s a major draw for tourists coming to Montebello.

Not only is it MASSIVELY expensive and hard to get a room in, but it also lacks the caring touches that Ross and Dominique have imbued their B&B with.

I’ve stayed at many Fairmonts and have never felt as welcomed nor had as good of a time as I did at the Chamberland.

How to Get to Montebello

Montebello is a small town located in the province of Quebec, Canada.

It is situated on the Ottawa River, about halfway between Montreal and Ottawa. The town is accessible by car, bus, or train.

If you are coming from Montreal, take Highway 40 eastbound until you reach exit 185 for Montebello/Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot. Follow Notre Dame Street until you reach Rue Principale, then turn left. Montebello will be on your right.

If you are coming from Ottawa, take Highway 417 westbound until you reach exit 68 for Montebello/Gatineau. Follow Chemin de la Montagne until you reach Rue Principale, then turn right. Montebello will be on your left.

The train and bus will not drop you off in front of the hotel, so be prepared to walk.

You can easily rent a car.
